“Whether you love or hate him, Donald Trump is an expert marketer.”
People who love him truly LOVE him. As in they’re getting into fist-fights with protesters at his rallies.
Others DESPISE the Donald, but still can’t stop talking about him.
What’s my point here? He’s whipped an entire country into a frenzy. In fact, he has a serious chance of becoming president.
So how did he do it? And how can you copy him to make more money in your business?
#1 – Repel People Who Aren’t a Good Fit
You either love the Donald or you hate him. There’s no middle ground.
He’s too extreme to feel wishy-washy. He’s openly said we should build a wall with Mexico and ban Muslims from entering the country.
These are not politically correct, pandering to the masses statements.
Instead, he forces you to choose. You’re either with me or against me. Period.
How can YOU use this strategy to make more money?
Stop trying to appeal to the masses and take a STAND for something. More important, speak up about what you stand AGAINST.
Ben Settle has got to be one of the only “gurus” pushing this down people’s throats.
And no matter how many times people hear about it, they still get scared.
“I don’t want to offend my subscribers. What if they start posting bad things about me?”
Yes, taking a stand will offend some people. But, it will make the people who have the same beliefs as you love you even more.
And the more you polarize, the more the people who resonate with you will back you up!
There is literally no excuse for playing it safe these days. Donald Trump has destroyed the entire notion that you need to be politically correct to attract millions of extremely loyal followers.
Yes, we’ve seen this before with personalities like Rush Limbaugh and Howard Stern. But never before has one person done it on such a large scale, in a such a dramatic fashion.
You want to attract more loyal followers and SELL more?
Start talking about what you HATE about your industry. Start talking about what you HATE about your clients (without naming them probably). Discuss the things you see clients doing WRONG over and over. Explain WHY they’re wrong. Tell them a better way to do things. Attack the status quo (assuming you have a good reason for doing so).
Your competitors are everywhere. Be the ONE they resonate with and can believe in to lead them.
#2 – Be Entertaining
I just watched my first live debate for the first time a couple weeks ago. All I can say is: Wow!
Whether you love or hate him, you cannot deny he is extremely entertaining when he’s in front of a camera.
I personally thought the debate was hilarious. Yes, he knows nothing about politics and attacks people for completely irrelevant issues, like how much they sweat, but it’s pure entertainment.
What does this have to do with you?
Odds are, if you’re marketing online, you’re using content in one way or another. The question is: are you entertaining, or just educating?
If you’re just educating, you’re boring. Period. No one likes the dull, talking head professor standing at the front of the room reciting facts.
Instead, look at Derek Halpern or Gary Vaynerchuck or Alex Becker.
They all do a great job of entertaining WHILE they’re educating. It’s not one or the other, it’s both: Edutainment.
In fact, while I have nothing but respect for Alex Becker’s success, his information about how to do SEO is really nothing cutting edge or special. But because he’s super funny in his videos (and because he repels lazy asses who want success without working for it – hint hint see point #1) – he has a HUGE following of extremely loyal fans…and is on pace to make 7-figures per month this year.
#3 – Stop Worrying About Being the Best
I think most would agree Donald Trump is not “qualified” to become president. Yes, he has money and has created lots of jobs. But he has almost literally ZERO political experience. In fact, during the entire debate I watched, I did not hear him say a single thing I would categorize as “politically sound.”
Despite all of this, he might win. What does this have to do with you?
SO many people out there have limiting beliefs about their ability to become an expert, authority or celebrity in their niche.
“But I haven’t done _______ yet.”
Written a book. Spoke on a stage. Built up 10,000 followers.
There’s a man with a very serious chance of becoming President of the most powerful country in the world…and he has almost ZERO experience.
In fact, people know this, and still don’t care. Why?
Because he’s a leader. He attracts loyal followers because he repels. He gets all the attention because he’s entertaining.
Am I saying you should label yourself a marketing expert if you’ve never run a profitable marketing campaign?
No! You should in no way deceive the people you’re trying to rally around you. That’s not what I’m talking about here.
But if the Donald can whip an entire country into a frenzy, and have a serious shot at becoming president…
…I think it’s fair to say you don’t need XYZ to become successful in your industry.
